Is IoT for me?
Self-help Questionnaire

The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a growing network of physical devices—sensors, meters, machines—that collect and exchange data using embedded electronics and wireless communication. In agriculture, IoT typically includes devices that track environmental conditions and automate responses in real time.

Rather than relying solely on manual observation and instinct, IoT systems provide granular, time-stamped data about soil moisture, air temperature, humidity, light levels, and equipment status. These data points help growers make more precise decisions across irrigation, fertilization, disease management, and harvest timing.

What Is IoT?

Internet of Things refers to everyday tools, like soil moisture sensors, irrigation controllers, and weather monitors, that connect to a network and send data in real time. In agriculture, that means getting a picture of what’s happening in the field, greenhouse, or grow tent—even when you’re not there.

IoT empowers farmers and growers to track conditions and act with precision. IoT can be implemented so that the farmer or end-user has final say in all decision-making. At its best, it saves time, reduces guesswork, and helps maintain the health of the land.

What Is IoT Not?

As an information technology consulting company, Merit-iot provides information about technical solutions that enhance your control and clarify decision making. but we do not interfere in how you choose to run your farm.

IoT is not about dictating how you farm. Merit-iot does not attempt to enforce rules, prescribe inputs, or take control of your operation. We do not, and will never tell you:

Merit-IoT does not promote genetically modified technologies, enforce centralized decision-making, or embed hidden access points into your systems or data. We do not track your behavior, harvest your personal analytics, or design tools that steer how you farm.

Full control and ownership of the data, and the choices of how it's managed, belong to the farmer. Our systems are designed to support autonomy, rather than implementing technology for technology’s sake. If a tool doesn’t respect your process, we won't suggest you install it on your farm.

Internet of Things should serve the grower, not the other way around.
