Merit‑iot is a community-first technology company founded in Nova Scotia, building open-source tools for growers who want to stay in control of their land and their data.
We formed in response to a growing problem: most agri-tech is built for scale, not for people. It prioritizes complexity, vendor lock-in, and shiny features that break old tools. We chose a different path—one grounded in local realities, transparent design, and respectful collaboration.
We don’t sell surveillance. We don’t sell dependence. We build quiet, stable, inspectable systems that serve the grower—not the other way around.
Merit-iot's tools, consulting, and insight help growers collect meaningful data without sacrificing control or privacy. Our systems run on open hardware like Arduino, ESP32, and STM32, and they’re powered by Linux and visualized with platforms like ThingsBoard. We don’t rely on cloud vendors—our systems are local-first and farmer-hosted.
We also work side-by-side with growers, co-ops, and educators to test ideas, translate dashboards, and design for the real-conditions farmers live and grow in.
I started Merit‑iot as a response to the ways technology drifts away from the people who need it. Hopefully, with intentional design and integrity, we can improve clarity, autonomy, and confidence for farmers in an increasingly tough growing environment.
